How to Recycle Old Perfume Bottles

How to recycle old perfume bottles:

1. Outer cover of perfume bottle
Remove the lid from the perfume bottle, then remove the nozzle. While placing the perfume bottle on a horizontal surface, pull the nozzle directly upward with your finger and place the nozzle in one when it pops out

If you do not want them to be used for decorative purposes, discard the lid and nozzle. This step applies to the top of a standard sprayer. The plug top does not have a nozzle because you usually apply perfume to yourself. You can skip the cleaning bottle.

Use needle-nose pliers to remove the metal around the neck of the perfume. Hold the perfume bottle firmly with one hand and grasp the loose metal with the other hand. Apply slight pressure and pull the metal straight up until the bottle dissolves. When pulling out the metal connector, be careful not to put any remaining perfume in the bottle. Discard the metal connectors in the trash.
4. Leftover perfume
Discard or keep any leftover perfume. If you plan to keep it, pour the perfume into another glass container. Tighten the top. Pour in any perfume you don’t want to keep in the sink and flush the drain with hot water. You can discard any leftover perfume in the trash if you want, but your trash will have a strong scent until you take it out.

5. Rinse the perfume bottle
Rinse the perfume bottle under hot running water. Turn on the sink so that the water runs gently, not fast. Fill the perfume bottle with hot tap water and pour. Repeat this process at least twice. Strong currents may cause splatters and dissipate residual fragrances throughout the bathroom.

6. Wash the bottle with white vinegar
Wash the bottle with warm white vinegar. Heat 1/2 white vinegar cup (120 ml) in 20-second intervals in the microwave mug until it is warm, but not hot. Over the sink, pour the vinegar into the rinsed perfume bottle until it is 3/4 full. Insert the opening into the bottle with your finger, then shake the bottle for 30 seconds.
Let the bottle of vinegar sit in the sink for at least an hour to remove some of the odor. After an hour, pour the used vinegar down the drain and rinse the vinegar with water to eliminate any lingering odors.
7. Dry the bottle
Dry the bottle in bright sunlight. Place the bottle outside or in a sunny area to dry. If the bottle does not dry within 24 hours, you can use a compressed air tank to speed up the process and dry the inside, and once the perfume bottle is dry, the recycling is complete.
